Prophetic Justice Ministry’s Key To World Peace

LISTEN TO PROPHETIC JUSTICE MINISTRY – Life’s A Party here.

So excited to help spread the gospel of Melbourne’s Prophetic Justice Ministry. On a trip with Molly Nilsson last year in Australia, one group of musicians kept getting referenced by almost everyone I met. Prophetic Justice Ministry, Who Cares? and the Melbourne micro-scene they’re blooming is something special. Prophetic Justice Ministry’s debut vinyl recording Key To World Peace is a gorgeous, mysterious mini album swirling in psychedelic fog and understated, affecting, melodic songwriting.

Recorded in home studios in Belgrade (Serbia), Christchurch (New Zealand) and Melbourne (Australia) over the course of three years, Key To World Peace offers a dichotomy in approach. Shifting on a dime between ambient, filmic washes of sound and more traditional song structures, the approach feels natural, casually acid-tipped and emotionally revealing. While Perry’s distinctive guitar chords and grasp of understated melody is evidenced in Melbourne group Who Cares?, as Prophetic Justice Ministry there’s a heightened sense of mystery and space being used.

Key To World Peace will be available soon via our comrades Hobbies Galore on CD in Australia

Forever Is A Long Time: A Festival Celebrating 15 Years Of Night School Records

We’re beyond ecstatic, kind of in a state of non-belief, that we are able to present a weekend of our favourite music ever from a selection of artists from across Night School’s history.

The first artists to be announced are Rose McDowall, Tristwch Y Fenywod, Guttersnipe, Cucina Povera, Amor, Yu Ching, Karl D’Silva and Free Love.

The festival will take place at Fairfield Social Club in Govan, an historic social club with roots in Govan’s shipbuilding history. The club is an active social hub and contains 3 spaces, one of which will be for live music + DJs for the festival, so there’s plenty of space to dance, take a breather, mingle.

We will be revealing more of the line up as we go. For this first announcement, we are making cheaper weekend tickets available, individual day tickets will come later.

I really hope to see you there and thank every single person who’s ever bought anything, said a nice thing, been to a show or shown up in anyway to support the label and each other.

Strawberry Switchblade: Official Merch, the first in 40 years.

BROWSE THE CURRENT RANGE HERE

Today we’re announcing the first official Strawberry Switchblade merch to be made available in 40 years. This is the first drop.

These shirts have been made with the blessing and collaboration of Strawberry Switchblade.

10 years ago when we were planning the release of the 1982 4 Piece Demo, it was always in the plan to make Strawberry Switchblade shirts to accompany it. It’s taken a while…

When I first fell in love with the band as a teenager, like a lot of fans I bought Strawberry Switchblade merch wherever I could find it. These were bootlegged shirts, badges, patches made by enthusiasts, genuine fans and opportunists alike. While we’re not here to judge it always felt a little off that the members of Strawberry Switchblade were never able to represent themselves to their fans in this way. This is the thinking behind designing and making Strawberry Switchblade merch now, in 2026.

For the first drop, there are 3 designs. 2 are new designs based on the 1982 4 Piece Demo release and featuring the original, surviving contact sheet photographs by Peter McArthur. These are designed by Musheto Fernandez in Glasgow. The other design is a reproduction of the classic Since Yesterday 12” single art from later in the band’s career, the most recognisable version of the group, and is probably the most commonly bootlegged image.

These shirts have been made with the blessing and collaboration of Strawberry Switchblade.

These will be available at first on the Night School Bandcamp. There are two shipping locations: UK and USA for optimum shipping rates.

We will be taking Pre-orders and shipping these at the end of April from both locations.

Molly Nilsson: Single

MOLLY SINGLE

Molly Nilsson: Single. Released May 12 on Dark Skies Association/Night School. Limited to 800 on Black Vinyl, 7″ with insert and DL Code. Art by Molly Nilsson.

Order from the Night School Shop

Peek-a-boo! An artist in her songwriting prime, hyperactive with the possibilities of the world despite the global zeitgeist forever shifting, Molly Nilsson sent us 2 new songs around the same time as the tracks for her new album Imaginations that were incredible pop tunes on their own right, yet just too long to fit on Imaginations. Like much else in Molly’s career, we decided to break the mould, not follow album-release protocol, and surprise you all with this double AA a mere fortnight before Imaginations hits the shelves.

About Somebody seems to be about somebody, or maybe even somebody’s body, about desire too, perhaps. How else to interpret the line “Babe I want to party with you every night, and have a hard-on for the rest of my life?” But this is a Molly Nilsson song, and this is Empowering Content. Over a rousing, even anthemic, verse/chorus one-two, a soaring synth-string hook that rides the handclaps beautifully, we‘re soon left wondering whether our beloved narrator is really focusing on the “other” at all. Love lets you down: treat it mean, keep it keen, and remember if you can’t love yourself how the hell are you gonna love some one else?

On the flip, Quit (In Time), is a classic minor-key Nilsson elegy to obsession and addiction, sounding almost close to an early 80s Springsteen love-story. Here we imagine Nilsson at the piano, her heart a resounding bell for all longing. If About Somebody is the tumultuous onset of an affair, here we’re hopelessly drawn to the flame, unable to leave alone that which causes the sweetest pain. It’s a universal theme, the longing for something we shouldn’t have, and Nilsson seems to elucidate the feeling with a precise, razor-sharp lyrical nous that fans will instantly recognise.

Single is about the self and the other; about navigating the love of others that tries to trip us up. But it’s also about you. Single is because you’re worth it.

Molly Nilsson: Imaginations

Molly Nilsson - Imaginations Packshot

Molly Nilsson: Imaginations. Released May 26 on Dark Skies Association/Night School. Limited to 500 on White Vinyl / 1000 on Black Vinyl / CD limited to 1000

Order from the Night School Shop

Molly Nilsson is now our well-established soulmate, sister and fairy godmother. In 2015, Molly Nilsson’s Zenith broke new ground for her, fast becoming her biggest selling album to date, winning her new acolytes. For us, Molly Nilsson is beyond other songwriters and singers. A lyricist so nuanced and honed that each epithet speaks directly to the heart, removed from the humdrum of everyday life and industry.

For an artist who has so successfully created her own environment and gradually let others in, her 8th studio album Imaginations sees Nilsson directly engaging with her surroundings, engendering change and allowing love in. Imaginations dreams big, recasting storming, stadium-sized pop into the internal language of the solo auteur. Imaginations is not escapism, it’s a kaleidoscope and an alternative view, an agent of change.

On Imaginations Molly is recasting her interior monologue as a prism through which to see the world, a means to live differently and to reject the status quo. We can Think Pink, change our destiny together. This is an optimism about the future when we need it the most. “New boys, new girls.. give me your smile and I’ll give you mine” Clearly, we are living through a transformation but with alchemists like Molly Nilsson, we’re never alone in the process.

Helena Celle’s debut, reissued on vinyl

In June 2016, Night School issued a short-run cassette of Helena Celle‘s debut album If I Can’t Handle Me At My Best, Then You Don’t Deserve You At Your Worst. A fierce, inquisitive mind active in Glasgow’s underground culture, Helena Celle – aka Kay Logan – recorded her debut using faltering machinery recorded live and loud to consumer dictaphones. The results are rich, emotive and out of this world. We’re proud to announce that the album is now available on vinyl. Photos courtesy of Bleep.
